Hid as Thoughts Unborn - Sue Shields 2014 - More Information
Sue has a preoccupation with the land, myth, history and religion. Her work addresses modern pilgrimage and new belief systems. "I walk, explore, map, print, mould and excavate the archaeology, stories and human marks on our ancient countryside.
Sue does not attempt to echo Clare's interpretation of nature but instead uses him as a conduit in her practice as she artistically re-imagines, re-interprets her own experiences of his hallowed ground. Clare often described nature as the creator poet and hs its muse, kicking words from the clods as walked in fields of poetry.
Using the land for information, Sue scours Clare's sacred wilderness unearthing relics, inventing new narratives, histories and myths to express her own deification of this natural environment.
