John Clare Poetry Prize 2009

The theme of the 2009 poetry competition was "Heros and Heroines". Many entries were received from which the finalists in the three categories were selected and taken to London for the day on October 8th - National Poetry Day.

The finalists read their poems on the Speaker's Steps in Westminster Hall in the Houses of Parliament. They were joined by the author Adam Foulds, the Chairman of the John Clare Trust Barry Sheerman MP, other guest MPs Peter Bottomley, Michael Wills, Fiona Mactaggart together with Keeley Mills the current Poet Laureate of Peterborough who all brought poems along to read with the entrants.

The prize winners were presented with a book of poems, a medal and for the winner a shield on which they will have their name engraved.
